Open Studio: Dawit Abebe & Robel Temesgen

We were pleased to host the open studio of artists in residency Dawit Abebe and Robel Temesegen on Sunday, December 9th, 2018. On view were works created in Israel during the two artists stay on the Africa First Residency. Joining us were many close friends in the Israeli art world as we lit Hanukkah candles and sipped Ethiopian coffee.

We were thrilled to have a very special exchange during this residency with the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. Artist Robel Temesgen was invited by Dr. Eran Ehrlich to create artworks in the BFA Ceramic and Glass Design Department. During his stay he was assisted by wonderful teachers and staff as he created Jebena's, Ethiopian coffee pots often used in ceremonies.

Dawit Abebe and Robel Temesgen were also invited to meet the MFA students at Bezalel in a series of studio visits. It was lovely to see the exchange as the MFA students also visited Abebe and Temesgen's open studio.

We hope to continue the dialogue and have many more collaborations in the near future!
